How to buy it?
What is better? Buying a highway sticker at a gas station or online?
There are several ways to buy a motorway sticker, but there is no doubt that online shopping is the fastest and most practical way. Just a few clicks on the hungary-vignette.eu page, and the e-mail confirming the purchase of the sticker will be in your mailbox. If we register on the site, we have to devote even less time, barely 2 minutes, to an operation.
On the other hand, a highway sticker purchased at a gas station or other resellers is printed on thermal paper, which fades after a while, and you can easily lose it. This can be a serious problem, as it can be requested retroactively during an inspection.
In accordance with the legal regulations in effect, the e-vignette must always be purchased for the toll section of the road before driving onto it (practically, this means before travel).
Retroactively purchasing a Hungarian vignette does not mean retroactive entitlement to use of the road, thus, retroactively purchased stickers are considered unauthorized road use and will result in a penalty. The 60 minute grace period is an exception. This means that if within 60 minutes of the time road use began, a vignette is purchased, the user will be exempt from the penalty. It is important to note that precise information must be given in order to provide authorization: license plate number, country code, fee category, time of validity.

Types of vignettes, validity
If you indicate the date of purchase as the date when validity begins, then the vignette validity begins at the time of purchase. In the case of bank transfer, the vignette is validated when payment arrives to our bank account.
The regional scope of validity for all vignettes is the whole country of Hungary, except the county vignettes, which are yearly vignettes and only valid for the portions of the roads within that county, up to the first exit of the neighboring county.
